This page is very much reliant on your imput with any interesting records submitted being posted on this webpage. It is not just about sending records of rare or scarce species but good species counts and interesting breeding records may well be used too (as long as there is no risk to breeding populations). Thank you in advance for your contribution.

March 7th :- A short report very kindly sent in by Jill Andrews called Birding in Busot

Today we were fortunate enough to see a pair of Great Spotted Cuckoos flying over the campo on the outer edge of Urb. Llano de Pastores, Busot. Seven or eight years ago these birds were a regular visitor every February to the Busot area but there has been little or no sign of them in recent years, possibly because of the extensive construction that is spreading throughout Busot and surrounding areas. We saw this pair frequently over a period of hours, alerted by their parrot–like call and they were usually being hotly pursued by a pair of irate Magpies! Hopefully they will stay in the area and breed successfully this year. Other regular summer visitors to the Busot area, in particular Urb. Pisnella where we live, include Red-necked Nightjar, Scop’s Owl, Alpine Swift and Woodchat Shrike. Unfortunately every year they sound further and further away from us as they try to find suitable feeding areas in what is left of the campo. Long may the Red- necked Nightjar continue to wake us during the summer nights with his car-alarm call outside our bedroom window!.

Saturday 15th :- I took a short walk through the sand dunes and pine forest south of the marina at Guardamar.   It was a pleasant walk although not providing a large number of bird species.  At first only Long Tailed Tits could be heard and seen but as I walked on further I saw a single female Crossbill along with a couple on Black Redstarts.  As I approached the area fenced off for excavations I saw a Crested Tit along with a Little Owl several Chaffinches another flock of Long Tailed Tit & Great Tits and several Robins.   As I looked between the pine trees down towards the sea I could see a large number of gull species and Balearic Shearwaters along with a few Gannets congregating in the same area, as I studied more closely a group of 6 - 8 Bottle nosed Dolphins appeared, several of which leapt high into the air.  I continued to watch them for some time as they cruised backwards and forwards in the same area, apparently feeding.  A great end to a short winters afternoon walk. Many thanks to Barry Chambers for this report, it's just what I am looking for.

Tuesday 15th :- As promised report of the Black Stork I saw from the Segura river bank between Rojales and Guardamar at 4pm it circled over my head 4 times and in all I watched it for more than 10 minutes, it finally appeared to land north of the river between Guardamar and La Marina urb. Tuesday 29th :- I had great views of a single Richard's Pipit at the usual spot between the 332 and the sea at Santa Pola Salinas at approx 10.30 am. I viewed it at close range near to the begin of the scrub land and watched it walking among the grass for 4 - 5 minutes before it flew off south calling.
