El Clot

Today we joined Dave and Linda for a meeting of the ‘5 ‘O Clock Clot Club’, not a real club but a made up name for a few of us who sometimes visit the Clot at around 5pm. There were several Red rumped Swallows and House Martins flying around the scrape, and at the main pool there were many ‘regular’ Barn Swallows. The usual Teal, Shoveler and Little Grebes were in evidence on the pool with the pleasant addition of two female, and two male, Red Crested Pochard, and a male and a female White headed Duck. A Purple Swamphen was showing to the left of the hide and a couple of Black winged Stilts and two Avocets were to our right, an unusual species for here.

Species list – Little Grebe, Mallard, Shoveler, Teal, Red Crested Pochard, White headed Duck, Coot, Moorhen, Purple Swamphen, Black winged Stilt, Avocet, Common Snipe, Woodpigeon, Hoopoe, Crag Martin, Swallow, Red rumped Swallow, House Martin, White Wagtail, Black Redstart, Blackbird, Chiffchaff, Sardinian Warbler, Great Tit (HO), Spotless Starling, Common Starling, Goldfinch.
