El Clot

We had a nice little visit to the Clot this afternoon seeing a Spotted Flycatcher near the marsh hide. At the main pool a Great Reed Warbler was singing loudly as it perched at the top of a reed before flying across the pool into deep cover. The pool was alive with young ducklings and their parents of various species, including Pochard, Red crested Pochard, Mallard, Coot and Moorhen. A Little Grebe was also seen as it dived for fish. A couple of Black winged Stilts were seen to the left of the hide and a Little Ringed Plover was at the edge of the water at the far end of the pool. We were entertained by numerous Swallows flying over the water catching flies, with the odd Red rumped Swallow, Swift and House Martin also being seen.

Species list – Little Grebe, Mallard, Pochard, Red crested Pochard, Coot, Moorhen, Black winged Stilt, Little Ringed Plover, Swift, Swallow, Red rumped Swallow, House Martin, White Wagtail, Blackbird, Great Reed Warbler, Sardinian Warbler, Spotted Flycatcher, House Sparrow, Greenfinch, Serin, Goldfinch, Linnet.
