El Clot, El Pinet, El Hondo – Nigel Bentley

At The Clot were three Little Bittern, two males (including the one in the picture) and one female, Marbled Duck, White-headed Duck, Great Reed Warbler, Western Swamphen, at least a dozen Bee-eater, Red-rumped Swallow, Sand Martin, and on the lake a pair of Black-necked Grebe were displaying.

At El Pinet there were many Collared Pratincole chasing each other – one landed long enough for me to take the photograph. Also here, were several nesting species, including Pied Avocet, Common Tern, Little Tern, Black-winged Stilt, Black-headed Gull and Slender-billed Gull.

At El Hondo were more Black-necked Grebe in summer plumage, Great White Egret, a Spoonbill, Marbled Duck, White-headed Duck, Western Swamphen, Red-knobbed Coot with chicks and Whiskered Tern. However, the highlight for me here was a Little Crake. In all, 57 species recorded during the day.
