El Hondo – Darren Wilson

Just had a very memorable day at El Hondo with tonnes of birds on the reserve. Such an exciting time as breeding is underway and the Spring migration is going through the gears.

Star birds of the day for me, were a very confiding Penduline Tit near the first hide along the Vistabella Road and a brace of stunning Great Spotted Cuckoos flew across the PFT at the roundabout end. Many other of the more usual species were seen including good numbers of Black-necked Grebes and Red-Crested Pochard in full technicolour. Two Black-tailed Godwits at the visitor centre plus this year’s first Whiskered and Gull-billed Terns also made an appearance.
