The birds seem a little quiet in this area at the moment but here are the results from a few outings this week.

Wednesday 24th January – GA Cliffs – Woodpigeon, Crested Lark, Crag Martin, Black Redstart, Blackbird, Great Tit, Linnet and two possible Crossbills. It was difficult to confirm the latter as we were out for a walk and didn’t have any binoculars!

Thursday 25th January – El Clot with Paul and Greta There is a lot of water in the bottom pool to the left of the main path, and this held plenty of waterfowl and unusually for the Clot there were 5 or 6 Greater Flamingo. A female Marsh Harrier was making regular passes over the reeds and the water. We spent a little while watching a Green Woodpecker on the trunk of a dead tree and two Snipe in the scrape were good to see. The main pool held the usual Coots, ducks and Little Grebes. Species list – Little Grebe, Greater Flamingo, Shelduck, Mallard, Shoveler, Teal, Pochard, Red Crested Pochard, Marsh Harrier, Kestrel, Coot, Purple Swamphen, Moorhen, Black winged Stilt, Snipe, Yellow Legged Gull, Hoopoe, Green Woodpecker, Crag Martin, Meadow Pipit, White Wagtail, Robin, Black Redstart, Stonechat, Blackbird, Cetti’s Warbler (HO), Chiffchaff, Sardinian Warbler, Southern Grey Shrike, Magpie, House Sparrow, Chaffinch, Greenfinch.

Friday 26th January – Carabassi beach road – It was good to see the winter Whimbrel back again as we have not noticed it here for a few years. The regular Little Egret, Turnstones and various gulls were also seen.
