We were on our way to Scotland so we decided to make a brief stop at Leighton Moss RSPB. We were hoping to see some of the ‘special’ birds here, such as, Bearded Tit or Bittern, but sadly we saw neither. On our way to the Lower Hide we heard and saw a Blackcap and 3 Treecreepers in the woods, and passed some nesting Lapwings on the fields with a couple of young. At the Lower Hide we saw Grey Heron, Greylag Geese, a Great Crested Grebe and a Great White Egret which seems to have been here for a while. Back at Lilian’s Hide, it was good to see 4 Black tailed Godwits in summer plumage and a couple of Marsh Harriers were seen perched and flying over the reeds. After having a snack in the visitor centre we continued towards our overnight stop in Dumbarton where, from our window at the Travelodge, we saw an Osprey flying over the River Clyde, which was a nice bonus.
