Monnegre – Mark Etheridge

A lovely sunny day on the Costa, but up in Monnegre there was a really cold wind blowing! Bryan and I had a good morning up there, although we didn’t find our target bird, the Trumpeter Finches failed to put in an appearance at our reliable site, either because of the cold or more likely they don’t need to search very far for water after all the rain. Quite a good species list, including Spectacled Warbler, Black-eared Wheatear, Cuckoo, Bee-eater, Alpine Swift, Black Wheatear, Nightingale, Coal Tit, a possible Bonelli’s Eagle and some really irritating Subalpine Warblers. We must have had six or more, but they played hide and seek all morning and just wouldn’t sit up for their portrait.
