New Hide by Santa Pola Salinas – Rex Walker

Members (and others) may be interested to know that there is a new walk to a hide near the Museo de la Sal on the N332 in Santa Pola. I went to the inauguration on 15 August. The walk goes from the Museo to the Charco (lake) de las Múrtulas, where there is a new hide (visible from the N332 but no legal parking).

It is not signposted, but is easy to follow. Park in or near the Museo (care on opening hours or you may get locked in), and from the filling station on the N332/CV865 just by the Museo, go under the flyover and walk to the left of the Wok Shan restaurant; at the end of their concreted car park is a concrete path; follow this for a few hundred yards, then turn left onto a clinker path just before a big advertising sign; follow this for a few hundred yards, then turn left onto a sandy path and head for the hide ahead; there are good views of the salt pans, and there are other paths into them (I did not explore these).
