Been for an evening stroll along the River Segura between Formentera Del Segura and Rojales. Recorded the following:
Common Waxbill – 1 male, Kingfisher 2, Cetti’s Warbler – at least 5, Zitting Cistocola – 2, Med Gull – 12, Spotted Flycatcher – 2, Iberian Grey Shrike – 1.
Not sure how frequent Common Waxbills are in this province, in fact, I didn’t know they were this far up the coast. Previously only seen them in southern Andalusia. This is the first one for me on the Costa Blanca. Clearly a male in full breeding plumage, it gave very close and stunning views. I know I shouldn’t say this as they are an alien species but he was utterly gorgeous!
