This is a report on our break to Ruidera from 19th-26th March 2022. We spent part of Sunday near the Lagunas de Ruidera, where we saw lots of Griffon Vultures, Great Tit, Chaffinch, Red-legged Partridge, Lapwing, Blackbird and Cormorant. At the Lagunas again on Monday (I don’t know if they get fed) but as soon as we parked the car the Azure-winged Magpies came flying down very close to us. We also saw Marsh Harrier, Mallard, Robin, Great Crested Grebe and more Griffon Vultures.

On Tuesday we made the first of two trips to Las Tablas de Daimiel where we saw and heard Cetti’s Warbler but I was not quick enough to get a photo. Other species seen included: Crested Lark, Linnet, Magpie, Glossy Ibis, Swallow, House Martin, Teal, Redshank, White Stork, Snipe, Greylag Geese, Egyptian Geese, Ruff, Great White Egret and Shoveler.

On Wednesday we spent part of the morning at Tomelloso seeing Marsh Harrier, Red Kite, Black Kite, White Wagtail and Goldfinch. On Thursday we went back to Daimiel, seeing Green Woodpecker, lots more Red Kite, Yellow Wagtail, Red Crested Pochard, Blue Tit and Song Thrush. We met a lovely couple from Belgium; Martina and Herman. The delight of the day was seeing a hundred plus White Stork fly in; an amazing sight.

Friday we spent the morning at the castle and embalse of Penarroya, stopped and had a coffee there and a walk around but it was the worst day for weather as it was wet and cold. We headed back to Ruidera for a very nice lunch at restaurant Victoria.
