A True Friend is Moving Away – Malcolm Palmer

In a Club like the CBBC, with an ageing membership, some departures shouldn’t surprise us. Since the Club’s inception, some twenty years ago, we have seen the sad passing of stalwarts like Brian Conduit and David Lewis, whilst other valued members have felt the tug of their native soil and returned there. These have included, notably, Pete Alden, Fran Vickers and Rex Walker.

Now, however, we are to lose the presence of a guy who, as a past President of the Club, and leader of many field trips, has stamped himself on the very existence of the Costa Blanca Bird Club. Barry Chambers is more than just a fine ornithologist, who will be a credit to Kent’s band of enthusiasts, he has been a true and constant friend to me and to others. I know all will join me in wishing Barry and his wife Carol all the very best in their new venture in the Garden of England.
