On a lovely sunny morning twenty four people, a mixture of members and guests, gathered at Venta Sant Jordi for the April bird trip to the Alcoy area.
First port of call being Font Roja, where a good number of birds were both seen and heard. Short-toed Treecreeper, Eurasian Chaffinch, European Blue Tit, Coal and Great Tit, Common Blackbird, European Robin, European Serin, Western Bonelli’s Warbler, Eurasian Wren, Firecrest, Bullfinch, and European Goldfinch.
After Font Roja we made our way to Preventori, where besides some of the above, also noted were Long-tailed Tit and more Western Bonelli’s Warbler. A few Griffon Vulture flew overhead.
Leaving Preventori we made the short trip down to Vulture Valley. The Blue Rock Thrush made its usual appearance, along with Griffon Vulture, and Red Billed Chough, some of the group thought they had also seen an Egyptian Vulture.
We all enjoyed a good lunch and service at Venta Sant Jordi.
After lunch six of us spent half an hour or so at Xorret de Cati where a pair of Western Bonelli’s Warbler put on a show, more Firecrest, and a pair of Eurasian Chaffinch were feeding under a tree. A few snakes were seen feeding in the pond.
A good day.
