Alicante University/Rojales – Malcolm and Barry

Persistence is rather an under-rated quality. After no end of fruitless Saturday morning walks around the Uni campus, I got my first (probably last) Common Redstart of the year this morning – a lovely male. The trees were awash with Robins and Chiffchaffs – absolutely sure to be something good amongst that lot, but with dense pines, you haven’t a hope.

Barry responded with this – I also had a nice male this morning but the bigger surprise was a Squacco Heron and a Little Bittern along the Rio Segura in Rojales.
