Belvide Reservoir, Staffordshire

As we were missing the CBBC Field Trip today we thought we would have our own field trip to our local patch of Belvide. It was dry and cold, but not too cold so we enjoyed visiting the various hides and seeing a few of the old favourite British birds. This was our species list for the day:-

Great Crested Grebe, Cormorant, Mute Swan, Canada Goose, Wigeon, Mallard, Gadwall, Shoveller, Pochard, Tufted Duck, Goldeneye, Buzzard, Pheasant, Coot, Moorhen, Lapwing, Black headed Gull, Herring Gull, Woodpigeon, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Dunnock, Wren, Robin, Blackbird, Fieldfair, Cetti’s Warbler, Long tailed Tit, Marsh Tit, Coal Tit, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Nuthatch, Magpie, Tree Sparrow, Chaffinch, Greenfinch.

The only new bird for my year list was the Wigeon, but that was good as it is my favourite duck! It was good to see a couple of Greenfinches as these have been quite scarce in the last few years due to some sort of avian disease.
