posted in: Birders Reports | 0

I’ve just returned to the UK after a week’s holiday in Villajoyosa where I managed to squeeze in some birding for an hour or two each day. I thought I’d let you know what I saw.
18/3 – Sandwich Tern at Villajoyosa, Common Buzzard near Benidorm.
19/3 – Two flocks of Glossy Ibis (@ 08.10 and 09.20) each of 100+ (Total c. 235) moving North over the sea at Villajoyosa. Seen from my balcony.

20/3 – 3 Black-winged Stilts just outside Villajoyosa harbour, then headed North. 8 adult Audouin’s Gulls at Villajoyosa.
21/3 – 1 adult Gannet South at Villajoyosa
22/3 – 1 Swift South at Villajoyosa,1 Cirl Bunting at Altea (presumed common but the first I’ve seen in the area) and Raven.
23/3 – 289 Swift South at Villajoyosa between 07.30 – 09.30).
24/3 – singing Corn Bunting at Villa Joyosa  (again presumed common but the first I’ve seen in the area).

In addition:-

  • Hoopoe most days
  • Apparent increase in Blackbirds (much more numerous than on previous visits) and Blackcaps on 20/3
  • Red-rumped Swallow in several locations on the outskirts of Villajoyosa.
