Cabo Cervera, La Mata, Rojales – Barry Chambers

Offshore from Cabo Cervera today there were 6 Common Scoters plus on the rocks the usual Whimbrel and a few common small waders. At La Mata from the hide there were probably 1000 to 1500 Black Necked Grebes including one that was completely white.

Just as a matter of interest I saw my first Audouin’s Gulls in the centre of Rojales in June 2010, just one pair, and each year the numbers have increased, only reducing when the River Segura is in flood as it has been several times in the past 6 months. This week in just a 100 metres stretch between the two stone bridges in the centre of Rojales there were 117 Audouin’s plus some flying over head and some more resting on surrounding buildings.  I guess in that small area there was probably 150.
