Cabo La Nau – Nigel Bentley

On Saturday we did a seawatch at the tip of Cabo La Nau, Javea, and apart from the usual early winter views of Gannet and Balearic Shearwater, we had very close views of an Alpine Accentor feeding on the rockface below our viewpoint. I’ve never seen this species at this location before! I didn’t have my camera with me but My friend, Mogens Larsen, kindly sent the pictures I took with his camera. They are little bit grainy but show clearly that the bird is an Alpine Accentor! I was lucky to get the one with the open wings since it shows the “dark panel in the wing”. The other picture shows the “orange-yellow base to the bill”. Both of these “characteristics” are described for Alpine Accentor in the Collins Bird Guide.
