Cartagena area – Darren Wilson

Having seen a pair of Bonelli’s Eagles from the Mirador Cuestas del Cedacero last Saturday, I was keen to do a ‘proper’ raptor watch here. No show but a Short-toed Eagle did eventually appear.  A juvenile I think. I also saw 2 Peregrine, a female Golden Oriole, 2 Woodchat Shrike, a Black Wheatear and over 40 Red-billed Chough.

In addition yesterday this juvenile Woodchat Shrike was being diligently fed by its parents this evening despite the local San Juan celebrations! Other birds seen from the La Magdalena rambla today were a superb Peregrine, a Booted Eagle, 5 Stone Curlew, a Little Owl, Hoopoe, 9 Bee-eater and now the sun has set, the Red-necked Nightjars have started their evening chorus.
