El Clot, El Hondo fields – Greta Owen

posted in: Birders Reports | 0

Spent an hour or so at the dry hide on Friday. Turtle Dove, Kingfisher, Green Sandpiper, a pair of Sardinian Warbler, Marsh Harrier, Western Swamphen, Glossy Ibis, Little Egret, Little, Great -crested and Black necked Grebe, White Wagtail. The Pochard has had a good breeding season, plenty of young, a fleeting glimpse of a Water Rail. A drive out over the El Hondo fields produced, Booted Eagle, Red-legged Partridge, Little Owl, Buzzard. A lot of Glossy Ibis, Cattle Egret, Jackdaw and Gulls on the melon fields along the track, another Marsh Harrier on one of the fields along PFT plus another Green Sandpiper . One of the irrigation pipes had burst and a small flock of Greenfinch was taking the opportunity to have a drink and a bath from it. The rest of the PFT, after the bridge is too overgrown. Didn’t see any Roller but there were still a few Bee-eaters around.
