El Hondo and fields – Daniel Newton

Last day of holidays. Treated myself to a second trip to El Hondo. Highlights from Vistabella Road were a reeling Savi’s Warbler first thing, and a Purple Heron that landed right in front of the hide but steadfastly refused to play for the camera! All the usual good stuff about. Finished with a couple of laps around the old monastery area, which yielded a very showy Bee-eater, an Iberian Grey Shrike, an Iberian Green Woodpecker and a Roller.
