We set off for Ciudad Real on Saturday and had a nice stop in the small town of Guadalupe on the way. Once again we saw Griffon Vultures, Black Storks and heard a Golden Oriole at the Embalse de Garcia de Sola, and we heard and saw a Great Reed Warbler by the river at Luciana. On Sunday we left Ciudad Real and headed back to Gran Alacant. On the way a Pin Tailed Sandgrouse was a nice addition to the list as it flew across the road near Alhambra. Our last Azure winged Magpie was seen near Ossa de Montiel and a few ‘regular’ Kestrels were seen on route. We made a final stop near Higuerella again where we found two Mistle Thrushes, a Bee eater with a nest in a sandy bank and a few Crested Tits in the pine trees.
We had a brilliant trip seeing some amazing birds and some spectacular scenery. I can’t wait to go there again sometime!
