Guardarmar, Torrevieja – Geoff Culliford

26th January – I am back in Spain for a month of birding. I had to dig my car out of five inches of snow in Alness last week to drive to Manchester airport . Yesterday I walked down the Segura by Guardamar . There was one Little Bittern a Western Swamphen the first time I’ve seen one there. Plenty of Chiffchaff, Reed Bunting and a Kingfisher. Walking home last night from the pool in the middle of Torrevieja I saw a Barn Owl in a small park.

28th January – It’s great to be back in Spain again. Great birds and good light. The first 3 days I just walked along the coast in Torrevieja from Los Locos beach. In 22 years seeing my first ever Kingfisher next to the beach.
