Lo Monte – Darren Wilson

Just spent a couple of very enjoyable hours at Lagunas Del Lo Monte. Highlights included a Ferruginous Duck, a Glossy Ibis, a Purple Heron, 8 Night Heron, close views of male White-headed Duck, a Western Swamphen, Common Pochard, Red-crested Pochard, an Isabelline Warbler and 23 Long -tailed Tits.

Just had a Black-shouldered Kite whilst I was driving near the first junction after the Torre Pacheco exit. I couldn’t relocate it as it took a while for me to do a u-turn. I will try again later. Seen plenty in Egypt and Kenya (seems like many lifetimes ago now) but it’s a first for Spain and indeed mainland Europe for me.
