Lo Monte – David Roe

I had a short visit to Lagunas de lo Monte and saw plenty of birds on the two main ponds, but nothing that you wouldn’t expect to see. Male White-headed Duck and a Grey Wagtail in front of one of the hides were the highlights. The other birds were Cormorant, Pochard, Shoveler, Gadwall, Mallard, Stonechat, Little Grebe, Coot and Moorhen.   I then walked up the road from the car park about 100 metres to the small reservoir on the right. There was nothing on the reservoir, but I disturbed 7 Night Herons in the pine trees behind the reservoir. They took off and flew around just over my head for over a minute. Excellent views.
