Mary’ Blog – Los Alcazares

On Thursday we left the hotel to head home, taking the coastal route via Los Alcazares, San Pedro del Pinatar and Cabo Roig for lunch.

During our coffee stop in Los Alcazares we heard and then saw a small group of noisy Monk Parakeets on the seafront. Over the sea we watched a Sandwich Tern diving for food and a Slender billed Gull was feeding on the surface of the sea. A Group of about a dozen Great Crested Grebe were on the sea and some Turnstones flew into a rocky area near to the café.

San Pedro Salinas were quiet with few of the usual suspects seen. As we crossed the Santa Pola Salinas later we spotted a Booted Eagle near the road, strangely this was the first one we have seen since we have been in Spain.

Species list – Sandwich Tern, Slender billed Gull,  Great Crested Grebe, Monk Parakeet,  Crested Lark, Avocet, Flamingo,  Black winged Stilt, Serin,  Black Redstart,  Stonechat.
