Today was our first proper day of birding. We stopped at the viewpoint on the way to Zuriza but only saw a Marsh Tit in the trees and a single Griffon Vulture on the cliffs. As we passed through the meadows at Zuriza there were several Crag Martins flying around a building. We continued to the Linza refugio for a coffee passing a pair of Grey Wagtails by the river on the way.
Retuning to Zuriza we took the road towards Isaba and stopped by some fields to look for our target bird. After a while I spotted one. A Red-backed Shrike and we watched a couple of them for about 15 minutes. While we were there an Egyptian Vulture flew over giving us great views of it. Things were looking up after a quiet start to the day.
Returning to the Zuriza meadows for our picnic a Jay and then another flew across the road. At Zuriza an Egyptian Vulture was flying above the trees and we also saw Mistle Thrush, White Wagtail, Great Tit, Swallow and Black Kite. In the now abandoned camp site we spotted Short-toed Treecreeper, Iberian Green Woodpecker, Goldfinch, Blackbird, Chaffinch and Bullfinch.
