Mary’s Blog – Seahouses

To celebrate the start of 2019 we headed to Seahouses to have lunch in the Bamburgh Castle Hotel, overlooking the harbour.

On the way we had a quick drive past Budle Bay where I started this year’s bird list with my favourite duck, a Wigeon, several of them in fact. There were also Teal but no waders as the tide was well in. We passed a field holding dozens of Curlew and another with as many Lapwings. At the harbour we had Herring Gull, Black headed Gull and Great Black Blacked Gull.

While eating lunch we watched a couple of Eider Ducks bobbing about between the boats. Various other common species were ticked off on the way home, including Oystercatcher, Crow and Starling.

Back at home, the feeders with busy as ever with Chaffinch, Goldfinch, Tree Sparrow, Great Tit, Blue Tit and Coal Tit. I am hoping to give the list a boost when we are back on the Costa Blanca later in the year.
