Bird sightings for week commencing 25th May

25th May – La Aloziha – Blue Rock Thrush, Zitting Cisticola

Tuesday 26th – Guadalentín valley, Lower slopes of Sierra de Espuna, Fuente Librilla, Rabas – Amongst other species, three displaying Little Bustards, Stone Curlew, Calandra, Short toed, Lesser short Toed and Crested lark. Great Spotted Cuckoo. All species of Hirundine, except Sand Martin. Crested Tit, Long tailed Tit, Great Tit, Chaffinch.

Wednesday 27th – between Puntas de Calnegre and Cabo Cope – Nesting colonies of Pallid Swift and Alpine Swift. Five Adult plumage Greater Flamingo looking for a suitable place to land on a rocky coastline. They looked very tired.

Thursday 28th May – Las Rambla de Moreros, Mazarron – one displaying Rufous Bush Chat (our first for 15 years). Nightingale (heard only).

Friday 29th May – Lagunas de Compotajar -from perimeter fence (reserve closed) amongst others – White headed duck, breeding plumage and young Black necked Grebe, Common Tern, Sand Martin. Heard: Reed, Great Reed, and Cettis Warblers.
