Picos de Europa – Darren Wilson

Bit of a red letter day for me in the end…Magical birding up in the high tops of Picos de Europa today. The star bird and one that was on the top of my list was Wallcreeper. Three were seen relatively easy including a magnificent male. One came within only a few metres of me. Unfortunately, really difficult to get any photos. The same was said for the White-winged Snowfinch which were quite common but were expert at avoiding my lens. Yellow-billed Chough and Alpine Accentor presented no such difficulties.

Also seen at this altitude of 2000 metres were Griffon and Egyptian Vultures, Water Pipit, Grey Wagtail, Kestrel and Black Redstart. Sumptuous scenery and wonderful wildlife. Life simply doesn’t get better than this.
