My wife and I walked the path from the N332 ‘Mercadona’ roundabout through the pines and alongside the mouth of the Segura River as far as the jetty, encountering Short-toed Treecreeper, Iberian Grey Shrike, Iberian Woodpecker, Mediterranean Gull and Little Grebe amongst others. Hundreds of Black-headed Gull were mobile over the sea but not much else.
I spent an hour at San Felipe visitor centre in the afternoon, hoping without luck to see Bluethroat. The full list is Western Swamphen, Black-winged Stilt, Booted Eagle, Cattle Egret, Cetti Warbler, Chiffchaff, Coot, Crag Martin, 3 Curlew Sandpiper, Glossy Ibis, Greater Flamingo, Greenfinch, Hoopoe, House Sparrow, Little Grebe, 2 Little Ringed Plover, Mallard, 23 Marbled Duck, Marsh Harrier, Meadow Pipit, Moorhen, Red-knobbed Coot, Sardinian Warbler, Shoveler, 6 Snipe, Spotless Starling, Stonechat and Teal.
