Today we had a drive over to San Felipe Visitor Centre via Santa Pola Salinas and the Palm Farm Track. Birds seen at the various locations were as follows:-
Salinas – Pochard, Coot, Flamingo, Shelduck, Slender billed Gull, Yellow legged Gulls, Cormorant, Sandwich Tern, Black winged Stilt, Avocet.
Palm Farm Track and Green Sandpiper Alley – Grey Heron, Marsh Harrier, Crag Martin, Little Egret, Kestrel, Red legged Partridge, Cattle Egret, Blackbird, White Wagtail, Southern Grey Shrike, Greenfinch.
Santa Agueda – Black Redstart, Goldfinch.
San Felipe – 3x Glossy Ibis flying, Black Redstart, Stonechat, Crested Lark, House Martin (many), Swallow, Mallard, Pochard, Coot, Little Grebe, Gadwall, Black necked Grebe, White headed Duck (x2), Green Sandpiper, Shelduck, and several Black winged Stilts with a single Glossy Ibis.
At the pool by the picnic area – 5x Marbled Ducks, Chiffchaff, House Sparrow, White Wagtail, Mallard, Red Knobbed Coot, Moorhen, Sardinian Warbler.
The most numerous birds today were House Martins of which there were many feeding over the lagoons at San Felipe along with a few Swallows. Our bird of the day was Marbled Duck as these could be seen well in the little pool by the picnic area.
