Santa Agueda – Darren Wilson

The Visitor’s Centre at El Hondo resembled the car park at Glastonbury so I gave that a wide berth and instead dropped in at the Twin Towers. I was immediately greeted by a cracking male Woodchat Shrike. The area around the southern tower is flooded so there were plenty of birds including dozens of Glossy Ibis and Black Winged Stilts with half a dozen Wood Sandpiper and a typically brief view of a Water Rail. Overhead were at least 10 Whiskered Tern and three Collared Pratincoles. On the homeward journey a male Common Cuckoo was calling near the bridge between Formentera Del Segura and Rojales.
