Embalse De Pedrera and Sierra De Escallona

La Pedrera

The area is approached by leaving the AP7 on the CV945 and heading in the opposite direction to Los Monesinos.  At the end of the road turn right onto the CV95, continue past a restaurant on your right and turn left at Vistabella. This leads to the reservoir which you can drive round the edge of on the CV950. After a while you need to turn left onto the CV925 towards Torremendo. The reservoir does not hold a huge number of species but Great Crested Grebe are usually around. Great White Egret and many scrubland birds were seen around the edges.

Sierra de Escalona

As you reach the edge of Torremendo you need to turn right at the lights onto a small side street, then at the end turn right again and follow this road past the orchards until you reach a rough parking area on the right, not far past a house. Stop here and scan the ridge for raptors and Eagle Owls (at dusk).  The sierra is a good place to see Golden Eagle and other raptors and small woodland species can also be found amongst the trees.
