“There are currently 19 Golden Eagles that fly every few days over our campground in the Sierra Espuna, Pedro de Ponce area. Normally there are a few Peregrine Falcons and rare owls about and at least a pair of eagles but this is the most we have seen since 2021 when there were 40.

They nest in the Mountain behind us and use the pocket thermals created by being in-between the two ranges to gain height.Yesterday they were at 10m above us for an hour.

We are not particularly bird watchers but we see different ones everyday and are right next to the bird preservation area of the Sierra Espuna. The birds don’t know there’s a line and nest in the rock behind us just out of the area.

We regularly see Peregrine Falcons hunting just meters from us in the fields. Around us we have lots of pine ramblas where owls and other birds nest. There are Goshawks and a few others that nest 20 meters away in the pines. Basically, nothing but pine forest, no light and mountains with high cliffs.

You can and we do, walk up to the top of the rock and you can see them very clearly. We are not a bird watching area but then nobody has ever lived here so probably nobody noticed them as we do. You would be welcome to visit if you wanted to see for yourself the area.”
