Mary’s Blog – El Clot

Wednesday 8th February

We arrived on Tuesday, so after shopping on Wednesday morning, our first outing was to El Clot in the afternoon. It was great to be back and see some of our old favourites there. Great also to be here at the same time as Dave and Linda again.

In front of the dry hide there were loads of Shoveler, a few Little Grebe, Teal, Coots and a Booted Eagle flew over. A nice Grey Wagtail was feeding at the edge of the water in front of the hide

At the new hide we added White-headed Duck, Black-necked Grebe, Pochard, Marsh Harrier and a distant Red-crested Pochard.

Moving on to the main hide Dave spotted a skulking Little Bittern; a sleeping juvenile Night Heron was in the distant reeds, and after a while a Western Swamphen appeared. The usual Black Redstarts, Chiffchaff and Crag Martins were also seen, amongst other things.

Species List – Little Grebe, Black-necked Grebe, Cormorant, Little Bittern, Night Heron (juvenile), Mallard, Gadwall, Shoveler, Teal, Pochard, Red-crested Pochard, White-headed Duck, Marsh Harrier, Booted Eagle, Kestrel, Coot, Moorhen, Western Swamphen, Black-winged Stilt, Black-headed Gull, Crag Martin, Grey Wagtail, White Wagtail, Black Redstart, Blackbird, Chiffchaff, Iberian Grey Shrike, Spotless Starling.
