Mary’s Blog – Torrevieja, San Pedro del Pinatar, Lo Monte

Today we headed for Torrevieja to look for the Azure-winged Magpies. As we arrived in the known area for the birds, one landed on the ground along the track before flying off over a wall. We wandered around the area for a while seeing about 5 or 6 of the birds as well as 2 Monk Parakeets.

Next we drove down to San Pedro del Pinatar where there was nothing much of interest so we headed back to Lo Monte. Here we spent a peaceful hour or so watching the birds on and around the lake, including Pochard, Shoveler, Mallard, Tufted Duck, Cormorant, a lovely Black-necked Grebe in summer plumage, two Marsh Harriers and a couple of Chiffchaffs.
