Pego Marshes – Lawson Tickell

posted in: Birders Reports | 0

We were up at Pego Marshes last week and saw 4 Common Cranes – I think a family group of 2 adults and 2 juveniles – this was certainly a first there for us and we wondered if they had been seen before? We were back there today cycling around and they were still in the paddy fields to the east of cami bullent. (Editor’s note – Cranes were seen at Pego on a field trip in 2017 and are regular visitors around El Hondo area).

They were certainly the only unique thing we saw but alongside many hundreds of Glossy Ibis, a significant number of Great White Egrets and Grey Herons, with “usual” numbers of Little and Cattle Egrets, Cormorants, Marsh Harriers, Booted Eagles, Black-headed Gulls, and single Greenshank and Kingfisher.
