Santa Pola/La Marina area – Paul Coombes

An hours search around the pines along the Santa Pola coast road was a little uneventful, so still no sign of a Rufous scrub Robin. Just a pair of Spotted Flycatcher, a handful of Sardinian Warbler, Linnet and a lone Hoopoe were noted.

After a late morning chill at a beach bar in El Pinet where we also got some images of very close passing Audouin’s Gull we made our way to the Monastery Rd near La Marina. We were watching a few Bee-eater when I noticed one carrying a dragonfly drop to the ground and it remained hidden for some time. Eventually it reappeared minus the tasty morsal. Could I have at last found some local breeding birds? Other birds seen were a pair of Roller, Little Owl and the Kestrel family.
