El Hondo – Darren Wilson

Here’s the latest instalment from South-East Spain! El Hondo is just an amazing place especially in the sunshine!

Nothing out of the ordinary around El Hondo today but spent the morning enjoying good numbers of quality birds. Just before the second hide along the Vistabella Road, I saw a very confiding Moustached Warbler. At one point it was only a few feet away from me and seemed to not give one jot about my presence. Best view I’ve ever had of this charismatic species.

Then went to the Santa Agueda platforms. Unfortunately, they are still being repaired. Despite the noise I did manage to see Tönn, the Greater Spotted Eagle, roosting in one of his favourite trees.

Then dropped in at the visitor centre where I was greeted by 7 Booted Eagles together. In fact, Booted Eagles were seemingly everywhere today almost outnumbering Marsh Harriers.
