Mary’s Blog – El Clot

This was our last full day in Gran Alacant so a visit to the Clot was in order. Most of the usual species were seen but nothing new. The Little Bittern had moved to the scrape pool and gave us a much better view of it than previously.

After lunch we had a walk along the little promenade in Santa Pola del Este where an Audouin’s Gull posed for photos. We are home now having seen 101 species with 43 of them being birds we would not normally see in the UK. All in all it has been an excellent visit, we’ve seen some fantastic birds, with highlights being Great Bustard, Ferrugious Duck and Great Spotted Cuckoo. It was great to see some old friends too.

Species list – Little Grebe, Black-necked Grebe, Little Bittern, Little Egret, Mallard, Gadwall, Shoveler, Teal, Pochard, Marsh Harrier, Coot, Moorhen, Black-headed Gull, Yellow-legged Gull, Crag Martin, Swallow, Red-rumped Swallow, House Martin, White Wagtail, Grey Wagtail, Robin, Black Redstart, Blackbird, Song Thrush , Chiffchaff, Sardinian Warbler, Blackcap, Iberian Grey Shrike, House Sparrow, Chaffinch, Greenfinch, Serin, Goldfinch.
